Khamenei, Raisi's Mentor, Also Injured in Crash
In Iran's dual political system split between the clerical establishment and the government, it is Raisi's 85-year-old mentor, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who holds the most power. Khamenei was also reportedly in the helicopter at the time of the crash and is said to have sustained injuries.
Foreign Minister Zarif Also on Board
The helicopter was carrying a number of other officials, including Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif. The status of the other passengers is also unclear at this time.
